WINTER 3rd Progress Meeting (14-15/2/2024)

The third Progress Meeting of WINTER was held on 14-15/2 in Bochum, Germany, by DMT-THGA (Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola), attended both from Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) and Poltegor-Instytut participants!

The first day of the meeting was dedicated to a fieldtrip at one of the most impressive coal mining heritage sites, the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany (https://lnkd.in/dydgVxuK), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Zollverein Complex (Coal mine and coking plant) (1851-1986) is one of the largest mining sites in Europe. Shaft 12 and the cookery became UNESCO World heritage site in 2001.

The participants also visited the Ruhr Museum in the former Coal Washery, a regional industrial museum with over 6,000 exhibits. Many of former buildings in Zollverein have been converted for other uses (start-ups, art-gallerys, restaurants, event-locations) and transformation is still ongoing.

We would like to thank our colleagues at DMT-THGA for their hospitality and all the participants for the the insightful presentations and fruitful discussions. We would also like to thank Project Officer Vasiliki Kosiavelou, for her very helpful advice on IPR, dissemination and exploitation strategies.
